I had two very successful book signings last weekend.
It made me think how I define success. “What is successful?” “What are my goals?”
My goal is “education” to let as many people possible know about this wonderful little psychological tool–my book, Common Sense is UnCommon; the goal of Chapters/Indigo is to sell books. I am happy to report we did both.
Throughout last weekend on every station both radio and television Canadians watched the funeral of the newly elected leader of the opposition. The words of Jack Layton’s last letter. The inspiration and direction came from his quotes and set a standard for our thought patterns, emotions and actions. We chose to celebrate his life. The positive tone was set by the inspirational words he left.

So last weekend’s signing started with a positive attitude and a passion for curiosity about people. I opened most discussions with one of Jack Layton’s quotes and wonderful discussions followed.
Volunteering in our community is something that I stress in all of my lectures, workshops and appearances. I was once asked, “Do you take your own advice? Do you do as you say?”
Last weekend at the book signings I reconnected with people whom I met through my volunteer work.
I am proud to say I have been a public speaking judge for over ten years with the Canadian Royal Legion, Branch 66. They have a youth education program which is exceptionally successful.

What I wear is a wonderful ice breaker topic at all the book signings. I like clothes but do not enjoy shopping. Last weekend I wore a blue denim dress by Brian Bailey who is a wonderfully talented designer. I happen to meet him last week and mentioned that I will be having a book signing on September 10th near his store and I am hoping he will attend. He was gracious and truly made me feel valued. “People like to deal with people who make them feel valued.” –Page 28
